Vermeer’s Room

Inspired by David Hockney’s photo collages and his research on Johannes Vermeer’s production techniques for achieving accurate perspective and realism, in this project I transform the room Vermeer used as his studio throughout his career into a three dimensional abstraction. In a manner similar to Hockney’s multi-perspective collages, I combine different elements of the paintings Vermeer produced in this room into a single sculpture. Although when first seen it registers as a complete abstraction, closer inspection reveals that from certain viewpoints the images are completed into visually comprehensible scenes.
